Music Production

Music arrangement and sound design play an important role in the wide range of video/film productions produced at Studio Scotland. For the most part, music productions are procured from various producers from around the world while sound design has always been created within the studio.

While it's been on the cards for some years, director Stewart Menelaws was able to take the time required to return to a much loved art form, the production of themed music. During the pandemic of 2020, time was allocated to research and bring up to date the recording/editing studio with the necessary hardware and software.

It was during the making of The Daniel Connection feature film in 2015 that would bring the musical talents of composer Don Gawthorne to the studio and a collaboration that would produce a number of cinematic themes, later followed up with compositions created for documentary production. In 2021 Stewart continued working on a number of themed music compositions and here is what he had to say...

"Ever since I was a young boy I always remembered hearing the cinematic feature film scores that captured my attention, particularly how themed music was used to convey the cinematic image presented before you. While, as a young man playing electric guitar in the hard rock environment during the turbulent seventies, I would be drawn to recreating classical themes and desired to have greater control with orchestral input but, in those days, that was a pipe-dream. Today, as with much of the advancing digital technologies, so much can be accomplished utilising software yet still allowing the joy of creating the source arrangement on a physical instrument."

Of course, audio production has always been part of the service we provide to our many clients, over the years, with broadcast production recording facilities both in-house and location field work. We have produced audio for cinema, television, various forms of multi-media as well as audio files for tannoy systems for Scot Rail and Royal National Institute of Blind.
