Discipleship has to do with instruction and application toward a skilled position like learning a trade through an apprenticeship. The term 'disciple' comes from the word 'discipline' and it makes sense to say that to become an apprentice or disciple requires a certain amount of it. Therefore, a Christian disciple is one who studies and prepares to become skilled in learning, understanding and applying the Word of God.
